Snohomish County Tribal Community

Apartments in Tulalip, WA

Welcome to Tulalip, the Tulalip Tribes' home on Port Susan, where a proud Coast Salish community anchors a thriving resort and retail corridor north of Marysville.

Tulalip is a community on the Tulalip Indian Reservation in western Snohomish County, Washington, along the shore of Port Susan and just west of Marysville. It is the homeland of the Tulalip Tribes, a federally recognized coalition of Coast Salish peoples who settled onto reservation lands after signing the Point Elliott Treaty of 1855. The reservation encompasses about 22,200 acres, and the 2020 census counted roughly 11,000 residents within its boundaries, with Tulalip Bay as its largest community. The community occupies a striking stretch of the Puget Sound lowlands, with wooded uplands, tidelands, and a shoreline that remains central to tribal identity and subsistence. Tulalip's economy is anchored by the Tulalip Tribes' enterprises: the Tulalip Resort Casino, Quil Ceda Creek Casino, Tulalip Bingo & Slots, and Quil Ceda Village, a federally chartered commercial center that includes Seattle Premium Outlets and major retailers just off Interstate 5. The Hibulb Cultural Center preserves and interprets the tribes' history and art, and tribal government and social services support the reservation's residents. Interstate 5, built through the Marysville-Tulalip area in the mid-twentieth century, divides the reservation from the city of Marysville and has shaped both communities' growth. The freeway's completion also helped turn the reservation's commercial holdings into a major retail and hospitality corridor serving the North Sound. Today Tulalip is a destination for shoppers, diners, and resort guests from across the Puget Sound region, while remaining a close-knit tribal community with its own government, schools, and cultural institutions. For residents, Tulalip offers waterfront and forested settings, access to tribal and public services, and a location about 35 miles north of Seattle, with Everett and Marysville providing additional employment and amenities nearby. The combination of tribal sovereignty, cultural vitality, and a strong commercial base gives the community a distinctive character among Snohomish County's cities and towns.
