Silver Creek is a small, unincorporated community in Lewis County, Washington, set in the foothills of the Cascade Range in the southwest part of the state. The community lies along U.S. Route 12 near its junction with State Route 122, about five miles west of the town of Mossyrock, and it is part of the Cowlitz River valley that runs between Mount Rainier to the northeast and the lower Chehalis and Cowlitz lowlands to the west. Silver Creek's identity is closely tied to the water and the outdoors. It sits near the north shore of Mayfield Lake, a reservoir on the Cowlitz River created by Mayfield Dam. Ike Kinswa State Park, a 454-acre camping and day-use park on Mayfield Lake, is located in Silver Creek and draws visitors for boating, fishing, swimming, and picnicking along the lake's forested shoreline. The surrounding landscape is a mix of farmland, second-growth forest, and the steepening foothills of the Cascades. Silver Creek is one of a string of small communities along U.S. Route 12, a corridor that connects the Interstate 5 lowlands to White Pass and the eastern side of the Cascades. The nearby towns of Mossyrock and Morton serve as local service centers, while Centralia and Chehalis provide larger shopping and medical facilities. Because Silver Creek is unincorporated and relatively small, it has no formal government of its own and relies on Lewis County and nearby towns for services. Students attend the Mossyrock School District.
