Kettle Falls is a small city in Stevens County, Washington, in the forested northeastern corner of the state. Its name honors Kettle Falls, a storied cascade on the Columbia River that served for thousands of years as one of the most important Native American fishing sites on the river. When Grand Coulee Dam was completed in the 1940s, the falls were submerged beneath the rising reservoir now known as Lake Roosevelt, and the town that had grown up beside them became a gateway to a vast new recreation landscape. The city itself lies on the Colville River immediately upstream from its confluence with the Columbia, and it has a population of about 1,600.
