Lincoln County Wheat Town

Apartments in Creston, WA

Welcome to Creston, a small Lincoln County town on U.S. Route 2 amid eastern Washington wheat country, set on a high point with Lake Roosevelt nearby.

Creston is a small town in Lincoln County, Washington, in the eastern part of the state's Columbia Basin. It sits along U.S. Route 2, about 20 miles west of Davenport, the county seat, and a few miles east of Wilbur, on a high point of land that gives the town its name and a distinctive presence in the rolling wheat country. The 2020 census counted 213 residents in a compact area of roughly four-tenths of a square mile. The town grew up with the railroad in the early twentieth century and was officially incorporated on April 20, 1903. Agriculture has always been its foundation: Creston developed grain elevators and a farm-implement factory, and wheat farming remains the economic and cultural center of the surrounding landscape. The broad, nearly treeless wheat fields of Lincoln County stretch away from town in every direction, broken by the occasional butte and coulee. Education is a defining feature of community life. Since 1985, Creston has shared a cooperative school district with Wilbur, with Creston Elementary and the Wilbur-Creston Junior High located in town and the high school in Wilbur. The partnership buses students from a wide rural area, and the combined Wilbur-Creston athletic teams are a source of local identity. Recreation centers on Creston Butte for hiking and on Lake Roosevelt, the reservoir behind Grand Coulee Dam, which lies about 10 to 20 miles away and offers fishing, boating, and camping, including the Seven Bays Marina. The town suits those seeking a genuine small-town, farming-community lifestyle in the Inland Northwest, with Spokane about an hour east for city services.
